A DECADE OF LABOR
(Reference Book) One of the most ambitious of book projects has reached completion. For ten years 87 writers directed by an editorial team of 33 under the initiative of Lucia del Sol Knight have worked to assemble the first and only Encyclopedia of Yacht Designers. Included are 525 international designers, living and dead, together with their most important works. Obviously, the biggest names such as Francis Herreshoff, Starling Burgess and Olin Stephens receive the most complete coverage. But also designers such as the German meter class specialist Juiane Hempel and the Cat specialist Giles Oliver can be found there.This comprehensive English language book is therefore required reading for anyone interested in yacht building as well as a standard work of maritime history.The price of $250 is high but appropriate.
